Stetson Shane Holyoak

June 4, 2013 we were officially joined by the one and only Stetson Shane! We were a little surprised that we had him then. I hadn’t had more than two hours of 10 minute apart contractions a few weeks earlier but I had some feeling that I would be having him soon, so when I went in to the doctor on the fourth I decided to bring my hospital bag. I also thought about bringing my 4 day post-op husband but decided against it. I had a 10am appointment where the doctor checked me and my 10:15 he had broken my water. So much to my dismay I drove myself to the hospital and called to have my grandma bring my husband to the hospital.
Luckily they gave me an epidural with in thirty minutes of me getting into the hospital. However they did give me some other medication right before that that made me a little “happy”. I ended up talking A LOT and singing I’m a little tea pot (which Mack kindly recorded) and sincerely freaking out my sister by calling her while in labor J I also remember being pretty sure that the epidural machine sounded like a kitten.
Labor when really pretty easy at first. I went in to the hospital at a 4 and within 5 hours was at a nine. All that time I was taking naps, talking to my mother on the phone and had the nurses telling me how they were sure that I was going to have this baby really really soon! I have to tell you I had my hopes up! But then… I stayed and a 9 for about 6 hours! At that point I still wasn’t in pain just REALLY tired and impatient. But at 9:45 I started pushing and 10:13 I had a handsome, wonderful little boy!

Even if it had been a horrible labor it would have been worth it to have this amazing little one! He is the best thing ever!! Also I have to thank everyone in my family who helped! We had Tanner who got out of band practice and stuck it out at the hospital till Stetson was here and then got me watermelon at 1015 at night! Then there were Hannah and Jesse and can you say helpful! Hannah helped calm me down when I couldn’t nurse and held a screaming baby so we could get an hour of sleep… you were a life saver! And Aunt Lyz who brought candy and little girls to see us. Then Aunt Christine and Uncle Hans who brought Mack dinners while we were there. And last but not least my sweet grandma. She was one of my biggest blessings. I was sure that I wouldn’t want anyone there for when I was in labor, but Mack had just had surgery and was having a hard time doing anything but laying down. It was right before my epidural and I was pretty uncomfortable and becoming more and more painful and just generally freaked out that I was going to have a baby when in she comes… She just came right over and held my hand and stroked my hair and calmed me down till they could give me some medicine. It was a blessing. I am so thankful to them all!

  1. Jesse and I were so thankful we were able to be there. Talk about perfect timing! You're going to have to let me get in all my Auntie cuddles on the 27th and 28th, because I've been missing that little monkey like crazy!
